Medics have advised against a long flight back to England so soon after the operation.
Villa boss Graham Taylor told www.avfc.co.uk: “We haven’t yet arranged a date for him to return, because it wouldn’t be advisable for him to make such a long journey so soon after undergoing surgery.
“We’ve been in touch with Juan Pablo and we know exactly what’s going on. He went over there with his wife for the birth of their second child and has undergone an arthroscopy.
“He also had his cartilage cleaned out and we have a video of the operation. He’s not fit to play, but we’re in contact with him.”
