Aston Villa vs Watford: TV channel, live stream, team news & prediction

Two teams in miserable form will look to get things back on track on Saturday when Aston Villa host Watford.

Villa have just one win in their last seven games and come into this one after falling 1-0 to Newcastle United, leaving them 12th in the Premier League table heading into the new round of fixtures.

That's still better than Watford, whose slump has extended to 12 games without a win in all competitions. They recently succumbed to a 2-0 defeat to Brighton which left them 19th in the standings, one point ahead of Burnley having played two games more.

Here's all you need to know about this one.

Aston Villa team news

Konsa is still suspended | Malcolm Couzens/GettyImages

Centre-back Ezri Konsa will serve the second game of his two-match ban, while winger Bertrand Traore and midfielder Marvelous Nakamba remain out with hamstring and knee injuries respectively.

Aside from that, manager Steven Gerrard could opt to make some significant changes to the team after the Newcastle defeat, with Morgan Sanson and Danny Ings both hopeful of forcing their way into the starting lineup.

Watford team news

Sarr should start | Robin Jones/GettyImages

The biggest boost for Watford is the return of winger Ismaila Sarr. He came off the bench last time out but should be fit enough to start here, which could see Roy Hodgson revert to a 4-3-3 setup instead of the 4-4-2 seen in the past few games.

Injuries will keep Nicolas Nkoulou, Peter Etebo, Rob Elliott and Kwadwo Baah out of this one.

Aston Villa vs Watford head-to-head record

These two met at Vicarage Road to kick off the current season. Then led by Xisco, whose tenure feels like an eternity ago, it was Watford who emerged victorious, securing a thrilling 3-2 victory over a Dean Smith-led Villa.

Watford have tended to have the advantage over Villa in recent years. Smith's men did win 2-1 in January 2020, but that victory ended a run of three consecutive defeats against the Hornets - a streak which stretched back to 2015.

Of the players still at these clubs, Ismaila Sarr is the top scorer, with having netted in each of his two appearances against Villa.

Aston Villa vs Watford score prediction

Villa's struggles at the back look like they'll make this game more interesting than it perhaps should be. They always look vulnerable, and Konsa's suspension has only made that worse.

Watford will fancy their chances to score at least once, particularly with Sarr coming back, but this game is still Villa's to lose. The form of Philippe Coutinho and Jacob Ramsey could well be far too much for Watford.

It might not be the prettiest win, but Villa won't care as long as they get the three points.

Prediction: Aston Villa 2-1 Watford
