Gerard Houllier told Aston Villa fans will not be ignored

A huge banner draped from the top tier of the Holte End that read: 'Had enough, Houllier out,' was quickly removed before kick-off.

But supporters responded angrily after the game on message-boards, prompting General Charles C Krulak to step in and confirm that Lerner had been informed of the view from the terraces.

Tough times: The Villa Park faithful have turned on Houllier

Houllier suffered the brunt of the criticism after Matt Jarvis's winner left Villa just a point above the relegation zone.

Krulak, a club director, said on the Villatalk website: 'I was terribly disappointed by the game.

'All of your comments are fed to Randy. But I am certainly aware of the position we are in. Believe me, we do not want to suffer relegation. I am not happy about where we are and can assure you that Randy and the board want success as much as the fans.

'The fans are not ignored at Aston Villa Football Club and have not been since Randy arrived.'

Better news for Houllier came when a senior board member said after the game: 'Nothing's changed. We remain committed to the long-term strategy. It's important we show unity. We don't see why people would react so extremely and expect anything different. We believe we will stay up. We don't see how changing things would have any positive impact on the team anyway.'
