Jack Grealish Fined £150,000 But Will Face No Police Charges After Car Incident During Lockdown

Aston Villa are to fine captain Jack Grealish £150,000 for flouting government guidelines to visit a friend during lockdown.

Individuals are only permitted to leave their house for essential food or medical trips or to exercise due the coronavirus outbreak.

However, Grealish opted to ignore the government's measures in order to visit former Villa striker Ross McCormack on Sunday.

He was caught out after his Range Rover collided with a parked car in Solihull, with the 24-year-old pictured at the crash scene sporting a slider on one foot and a slipper on the other.

According to the Times, Grealish is not facing any police charges, but Villa are coming down hard on their player.

The club confirmed they would fine Grealish, with the proceeds going to a local charity, adding that they were 'deeply disappointed' with his behaviour.

The Times report that the midfielder earns £75,000 per week, and he is to be fined two weeks wages. This will be donated to the University Hospitals Charity in Birmingham.

Grealish issued an apology via a video on Twitter. "I just want to say how deeply embarrassed I am by what's happened this weekend," he said.

"I know it's a tough time for everyone being locked indoors for so long and I just got a call off a friend asking to go round to his. I stupidly agreed to do so.

"I don't want anyone to make the same mistake that I did. I urge everyone to stay at home and follow the rules and the guidelines of what we've been asked to do."

The weekend could have panned out considerably differently for Grealish had it not been for the coronavirus outbreak.

The playmaker has been one of the Premier League's star performers this season, and was tipped to receive his first senior call-up to Gareth Southgate's England side for the friendlies against Italy and the Denmark on 27 and 31 March.
