Grealish was caught out when he was alleged to have crashed his car into two other parked vehicles and took to social media on Monday to issue an apology, during which he reflected that he was ‘embarrassed’ by his behaviour and that his actions were ‘stupid’.
United have been increasingly linked with Grealish, who scored a superb goal at Old Trafford in December, in recent weeks and months. 90min reported last week it is becoming apparent that the Villa number 10 is one of the club’s three primary targets ahead of next season alongside Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho and Birmingham prodigy Jude Bellingham.
In the wake of the weekend’s incident, there had been speculative press murmurings that Grealish might have blown his chances of a high profile switch to Manchester as a result.
However, a source has informed 90min that it is unlikely to have an impact on United’s pursuit.
United even hold hope of being able to secure a slightly cheaper deal, although Grealish’s price tag will most likely be dictated by whether or not Villa are a Premier League side next season. Relegation to the Championship, which looks a distinct possibility, would bring pressure to sell.
The Daily Mail has separately reported that while Grealish’s behaviour ‘jeopardised’ a possible move, a deal ‘worth up to £80m is still expected to go through in the summer’.
