How did the Villa boys fare against Pompey?

Last updated : 08 December 2007 By Tom Vickers
Scott Carson 5
Once again didnt make a save. His positioning makes it look like he doesn't have a chance with some shots. Outshone by David James!

Wilfred Bouma 5
Didnt contribute much as Pompey played throught the middle and was eventually sacrificed for the more attacking option of Berger.

Martin Laursen 5
Missed two golden heading opportunities in the first half and didn't look his usual commanding self.

Zat Knight 5
Didn't contribute much and looked unnecessary as he was constantly the spare man in the Villa defence due to Portsmouth playing just one up-front.

Olof Mellberg 5
Distribution not the best and like Bouma he struggled to get in the game as Pompey failed to utilise their wide men.

Ashley Young 7
Again looked bright and was unfortunate to be moved to the right in the second half as Villa went in search of a reprieve.

Gareth Barry 6
Looked unusually lethargic and didn't have his typical dynamic impact.

Nigel Reo-Coker 5
Poor performance from the returning midfield man. His control was poor all day and he was caught on the ball too many times.

Craig Gardner 4
Scored own goal for Portsmouth's first goal and had virtually no impact on the game. Lucky to last as long as he did in the game and was replaced by Harewood.

Gabriel Agbonlahor 6
Nowhere near his best as the team struggled. Didn't seem to know where to play as Villa went in search of a fight-back and drifted into midfield too much.

John Carew 5
Tryed to flick on with no success and his touch was not good enough. Failed to provide the attacking prowess that Villa required.

Substitutes
Berger for Bouma (54): 5, No impact
Harewood for Gardner (70): 6 Not given enough time to make the difference
