Angel granted leave by Colombia FA

Villa boss David O'Leary requested the striker not have to travel to his homeland for the friendly on August 20th because the date comes just four days before Villa play Liverpool in the Premiership, and the Colombian FA have given the thumbs-up to his request.

“The Colombian FA and Juan have been absolutely superb over this. We’ve got a big game against Liverpool on the Sunday and it would have been far from ideal to have Juan travelling to New York and back, oO'Leary told the Villa official website.

“We explained the situation to the Colombian FA and they were very understanding. We want to make sure that Juan Pablo Angel is at his best for Aston Villa.

“The knock-on from that is that Juan scoring goals on a regular basis in the Premiership can only be good news for the Colombian national side.”
