Angel loan bid turned down

Villa boss Graham Taylor has insisted the request from the Spanish side to take the Villa striker on loan was in no way linked to the on/off deal to bring midfielder Joey Gudjonsson to Villa Park.

Reports in Spain last night suggested Villa had rejected a loan swap until the end of the season. Taylor though told www.avfc.co.uk: “I know it’s been reported over there that the loan move collapsed because Betis wanted to take Juan Pablo Angel in exchange, but that’s not the case.

“They did express an interest in taking Juan Pablo on-loan, but the two issues were completely separate and it was a non-starter.

“We first spoke to Betis about Joey last week and obviously agreed a deal at the weekend.

"During all the negotiations, Juan Pablo wasn’t mentioned right up until the last minute. And the deals were not connected.”
