Aston Villa dealt Albrighton blow

A right-sided midfielder with pace and trickery, Albrighton has been one of Villa's best performers this season.

He has scored three goals in 13 outings and his absence will be a blow to Villa boss Gerard Houllier.

However, Houllier could have the England Under-21 international back sooner than expected if a similar problem suffered by West Ham's Mark Noble is anything to go by.

Noble returned in two weeks for his side after having the same operation and a swift return for Albrighton would be welcomed by Houllier considering the lengthy injury list he currently has at the club.

Villa were missing 10 senior players ahead of the defeat by Blackburn and face Arsenal and Liverpool either side of a Carling Cup quarter-final at local rivals Birmingham.
