Aston Villa & Leeds play out six-goal thriller at Villa Park

Aston Villa and Leeds share six goals between them during Wednesday night’s Premier League clash at Villa Park, playing out a pulsating 3-3 draw in which Philippe Coutinho and Daniel James shone.

Five of the goals came in the first half alone, while Villa also ended the match with 10 players after Ezri Konsa collected a second yellow card late on and was sent off.

It was Leeds who went ahead first, with Rodrigo pressuring Tyrone Mings into giving the ball away in a bad area. The Spaniard found James, who fired low into the bottom corner.

Villa got back on level terms when Coutinho controlled Matty Cash’s low cross and swung a leg to send the ball flying beyond the reach of Illan Meslier. Minutes later, the Brazilian turned provider for Jacob Ramsey, splitting the defence to put the young Englishman through on goal.

Coutinho got his second assist of the night when he set up Ramsey again to extend Villa’s lead to 3-1 before half-time. But James hit back for the visitors in stoppage to cut the deficit to 3-2.

Leeds equalised just after the hour mark when Mings, who had been at fault for the opening goal, failed to clear and Diego Llorente capitalised.

Konza’s red card, dished out when he was cautioned for an aerial challenge on Meslier, threatened to make the final few minutes nervy for Villa. But 3-3 was how it ended.

Both sides remain in the bottom half of the table.
