Aston Villa will look to erase memories of the home drubbing by Portsmouth and bounce back with a victory over struggling Sunderland this Saturday.

Villa who have lost their last two games, need to re-create some of the magic on the road they produced in three consecutive victories at Birmingham, Middlesbrough and Blackburn.

Speaking on www.avfc.co.uk Captain Gareth Barry said: "We've had two defeats in a row now and it's important we get a result at Sunderland.

"They started the season really well and it looked like they might have a very good first season back in the top flight.

"But they have dropped in recent weeks and are now struggling at the bottom of the league so maybe the pressure will be on them rather than us.

" It was good to win three away games in a row but its important we follow with victories at home and we haven't been able to do that."

Barry, who scored in the defeat against Portsmouth, is an admirer of manager Roy Keane and believes that he can keep Sunderland in the Premiership.

"Keane was a player I certainly looked up to when I was younger as he was a real star in the Premier League.

"He's a fairly new manager but I think his desire and belief might just keep The Black Cats up."

Sunderland have been on a bad run recently taking just six points from their last ten games.

An injury to winger Carlos Edwards has added to Roy Keane's problems as he finds his options at right midfield and right back are limited.

Other injured players include former Manchester United winger Kieran Richardson, Captain Dean Whitehead and Nyron Nosworthy.

Keane will look to the January transfer window in order to sign a few players to add much needed depth to his squad.

Villa, now eighth in the league table, dominated the first half against Portsmouth on Saturday but found themselves two nil down at half time thanks to an unlucky own goal from Craig Gardner and a Muntari wonder strike.

Barry said: "We were disappointed with our first half display and it just goes to show how important it is to score the first goal.

"We were a shade unlucky in the manner it went in but it doesn't matter because they got a lift from it.

"It's not good enough to be starting the second period two goals behind at Villa Park and we must learn lessons from the game."

Fans of the Claret and Blue will hope those lessons have been learnt in time for kick-off on Saturday.
