Bent sets the record straight

Bent used his Twitter account to put the record straight, having been unhappy with how his words were portrayed to display his apparent frustration with McLeish's tactics.

"I can assure you that wasn't the tone of the interview at all," Tweeted the England striker.

"I would never criticise the manager or football club. We've made a solid start to the season and hopefully that will continue."

The former Sunderland striker, who has scored just one goal in five Premier League games this term, was merely stating Villa's intention to find a happy medium with defence and attack.

He told The Sun: "When you are used to scoring goals left, right and centre and then you are not getting as many chances, it is going to play on your mind.

"The gaffer is looking at alternatives. It's about finding a system where we are a lot more dangerous and potent.

"We have to find the right formation for the team to be solid and offensive at the same time."
