Blackpool turn down Adam offers

Blackpool manager Ian Holloway has revealed that the Seasiders have turned down offers from Aston Villa and Birmingham for midfielder Charlie Adam."It's true," replied Holloway when asked about reports of bids of about £2.5m from the Midlands rivals.

"The chairman has had a couple of calls and he has told those clubs exactly where we are."

Adam, 25, joined Blackpool from Rangers for £500,000 in August 2009 and has scored four goals so far this term.

Holloway's side have confounded pre-season predictions that they would struggle on their return to the top flight for the first time in 29 years.

I would think Adam is worth more than £5m to Blackpool

Scotland international Adam has been a key figure, converting penalties in wins over Liverpool, Newcastle and West Brom, and Blackpool are currently 13th in the Premier League - four places and five points above the relegation zone.

Despite rebuffing Villa and Birmingham's approaches, Holloway admitted it may be impossible to resist overtures from sides further up the table.

Birmingham and Villa are both below Blackpool in 15th and 18th place in the Premier League respectively.

"I spoke to Charlie this morning and he knows where I am coming from, and I know where he is coming from," he said.

"We have got him for 18 months on his contract and if one of those top clubs - I told him this morning - come in then I might have to consider it.

"But they would have to offer the right amount of money for this club to move forward."

Adam's future at Bloomfield Road was called into question earlier this season by a dispute with the club over payments he claimed he was owed for avoiding relegation from the Championship last season.

Not only did Blackpool avoid dropping into League One, but Adam's precise free-kick helped them to

a 3-2 play-off final victory over Cardiff.

Although the Premier League ruled in Adam's favour, they

did not deem Blackpool's failure to pay the bonus to be a breach of contract

- a decision that could have allowed the player to leave as a free agent.
