Charles NZogbia will cost Ason Villa 10million

N'Zogbia is Villa boss Alex McLeish's top target to replace Stewart Downing, who has left to join Liverpool for ?20m, but the move has hit the buffers with the Latics playing hardball over the fee.

However, Wigan chairman Dave Whelan insists the club are prepared to sell their highly rated winger, but only if the price is right.

Proper Charlie: N'Zogbia is edging towards a switch to Villa Park

The Latics chairman said: 'It's ?10m or there is no deal. They offered us ?9m and we refused it - firstly because we would like to keep Charles, and secondly because if he is to go, then we have to get the right price for him.

'Charles has played fantastically well in the last year and, with his pace and penetration, there's no doubt in my mind that he is the finest left winger in the Premier League.

'We owe him a lot, not least for his goal against West Ham that helped us stay up. If the right offer comes in, we would consider it, if it was in his best interests - but it has to be the right offer.'

Exodus: McLeish has a number of positions to fill following the exit of key players

Last summer McLeish tried to sign the Frenchman for Birmingham only for the move to break down over personal terms at the 11th hour.

But N'Zogbia has been told by Villa to either sign up or forget it as the club looks to push on and rebuild for the new season. ?CLICK HERE TO SIGN UP FOR OUR FREE FANTASY FOOTBALL GAMEGet N'Zogbia!
