The big striker has been in good form this season, but he was powerless to stop a rejuvenated Wales side claiming a morale boosting victory. Two goals from Wigan playmaker Jason Koumas paved the way for the win.
It was a better night for Gareth Barry as he started in Fabio Capello's first game in charge of England.
The Villa skipper played 65 minutes as the Italian looked to experiment. Ashley Young was given just five minutes to impress and Scott Carson remained on the bench throughout.
Wilfred Bouma will come back to the Midlands a happy man as he was in the Dutch side that triumphed 3-0 in Croatia. Bouma and his compatriots showed England just how to deal with Bilic's men.
Both Stiliyan Petrov and Olof Mellberg failed to line-up for their respective nations joining Gabby Agbonlahor who was forced to miss out for England.
