Delaney fears deparure

The Wales defender is out-of-contract at the end of the season, and Villa have the option of another year if they want. Negotiations on an extension have stalled recently and 29-year-old Delaney, who has spent seven years at Villa, is resigned to a future at another club. "I'm a bit surprised but it's the manager's and the board's decision. If they want to go in a different direction then I don't mind," he said. "But I am just in the air at the moment and not knowing what my future is."

The former shelf-stacker appears resigned to his fate, however, and is already eyeing up his next move. "I have the summer to work out where I am going to go," he continued. "Hopefully I would like to stay in the Premiership and I need the next contract I get to be a good one wherever it is. I just wish Villa would tell me 'Mark you are not required' and I can start thinking about something else. I'll have no qualms about that and if the club say 'that's enough' then that is fine. I would be disappointed to leave though."
