Stoke had been favourites to land the Chavster on loan until the end of the season but chief executive Tony Scholes revealed: "We were desperate to sign Lee before Saturday but problems occurred due to interest from a Premiership club". The 29-year-old Hendrie, who has not played for Villa since August, had a successful three-month loan spell with Stoke earlier this season, scoring three goals in 17 matches.
