Hutton eyes surprise upset

The Aston Villa stopper knows what it feels like to upend a superpower on their own turf having featured in the Scotland team that went to France in 2007 and came away 1-0 winners.

Hutton believes the Scots have every chance of pulling off another upset at the Jose Rico Perez stadium.

"Everyone can be beaten," he told the Daily Record.

"It's very similar to France. No one expected us to really do anything against the French - one of the best teams in the world at the time. We are massive underdogs and that's good for Tuesday."

Craig Levein's men must at least match the Czech Republic's result against Lithuania when they travel to Spain if they are to secure a play-off spot in Group I.

Spain ace Xabi Alonso has made it clear his side will not do Scotland any favours, but Hutton is hoping the fact that they have already qualified will make the world and European champions less of a threat.

He added: "They've already qualified easily. They might take it a bit easier and it gives us a chance."

Scotland enjoyed a 1-0 win over Liechtenstein on Saturday night to keep their qualifying hopes intact and leave them feeling buoyed ahead of Tuesday's trip.

But Hutton is aware the challenge in Alicante will be much tougher, adding: "It's going to be a massive difference from the game in Liechtenstein.

"I'm pretty sure Spain are going to attack us and they're going to have a lot of possession of the ball so we're going to have a high level of concentration.

"It is probably going to be one of the biggest games that we're going to compete in so it's going to be tough. But I don't see why we can't give it our all and just give it a good old shot.

"All the boys are looking forward to it after a good result. We're in a decent enough position to still go through."
