John Terry interested in Nottingham Forest head coach role

John Terry is interested in becoming the new Nottingham Forest manager, should the under-pressure Chris Hughton face the sack in the coming weeks.

The former Chelsea captain left his role as Aston Villa assistant manager at the start of the season, stating that he wanted to spend more time with his family, before working towards his goal of becoming a head coach in the future.

Terry could now be ready to make his first move into management, with the possibility of a Championship role becoming available in the coming weeks, according to The Sun.

Nottingham Forest are languishing at the bottom of the second tier, having made a terrible start to the new campaign under Hughton. The 62-year-old's negative style of play has frustrated supporters, and the poor results this season have led to many calling for his dismissal.

Forest take on Cardiff City on Sunday afternoon, and a bad result could spell the end of Hughton's time in the hot seat. Should the former Brighton coach lose his job, the Championship outfit will be on the lookout for yet another manager, and Terry could be the man to succeed the current boss.

The 40-year-old began his coaching career back in 2017, when he became part of Aston Villa's backroom staff.

He has been credited with masterminding Villa's impressive defensive solidity through his knowledge of the game, as his side ended the 2020/21 campaign with 46 goals conceded - only two more than second place Manchester United.

Terry left the Villans during pre-season and recently told Sky Sports that he is 'waiting' for a job to pop up, while it is well known that his ultimate ambition is to one day manage Chelsea.

"Obviously [I'm] always waiting [for a management job]," Terry said.

"But the idea was to step away, spend a year with the family and then see what comes up.

"We're a month into the season, I'm sure jobs will come up and I'm there and waiting and doing what I need to do in the background. But if not, I'm enjoying my time with my family."
