Laursen set for comeback

The Danish defender, a £3m summer signing from AC Milan, made just three first-team appearances before suffering a knee ligament injury against Charlton. He attempted a return in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Northampton in November but broke down after picking up a knock on the same leg and now he is desperate to make up for lost time.

“There are great expectations when you come to a new club and to be injured so early and not be able to play after starting well has been a nightmare for me,” Laursen said. “But hopefully things will now get better and I was always confident that I would play again this season. The players have given me great support, as have the fans, who have barely seen me, and the manager. I hope I can repay that faith. I just want to play football.”

Villa have also arranged another second string match against Liverpool for Saturday to give the Danish international another chance to step up his fitness.
