O'Leary keeps tabs on Onyewu

Tubbs has been seeking cover at centre-back ever since injuries to Martin Larsen, Gary Cahill and Olof Mellberg exposed Villa’s lack of defensive cover. Onyewu, 23, has been touted as one of the best central defenders in Belgium after helping Standard enjoy their best first half of the season for almost 20 years. The United States international, who was formerly at FC Metz and La Louvière, initially joined Standard on loan before they took up their option to make the move permanent in October 2004.
