Phillips future uncertain

Phillips scored just five goals for Villa last season and has been linked with a return to former club Sunderland. But O'Neill insists the Black Cats are yet to make an official enquiry about the player and he will meet Phillips face to face before deciding his future. "I personally have not spoken to Sunderland and I just want to assess the squad. I think Sunderland have made their interest public but I have not spoken to Kevin yet," he told the club's official website. "I will now sit down and assess the squad from our position. There is speculation at the moment about players going out and coming in."
