The 22-year-old has been tracked by a host of Championship clubs, but Pompey have managed to push through a deal and Hogg could be drafted straight into the squad to face Burnley on Tuesday night.
Hogg has only recently signed a long-term contract at Villa Park having impressed new boss Gerard Houllier.
"Jonathan has competed very well in the games he has played this season and this loan move will greatly assist in his career development," Houllier told the club`s official website.
Hogg made his Barclays Premier League debut against Manchester United earlier this season.
