Reo-Coker in, Davis out

Villa and West Ham agreed the terms yesterday for Reo-Coker before the midfielder finalised his switch at Villa Park today. The 23-year-old captained West Ham to Premier League promotion in 2005 before leading them in their last two campaigns, including the 2006 FA Cup final. He fell out of favour with the Hammers' fickle fans last term, however, and announced his desire to leave before skippering England to the semi-finals of the European U21 Championship last month.

A £500,000-signing from MK Dons in January 2004, he will be unveiled by Villa at 6pm tonight, and West Ham said in a statement: "We would like to thank Nigel for his service during the past three and a half years, and wish him every success." Villa will hopefully bid Northern Irish international Davis a similar farewell after he joined Fulham. "Leaving was not an easy choice to make," said the 22-year-old, who came through the ranks at Villa Park. "Although it is sad to be leaving Villa, I know this is the right decision for me and my future." Davis is not the only one departing Villa Park today after Chris Sutton was forced to retire after undergoing eye surgery.
