Southampton have confirmed that they have rejected a bid by Villa for striker James Beattie.
Saints chairman Ruoert Lowe has confirmed reports that Villa had lodged a bid for the England international striker but that the bid was immediately rejected."Aston Villa made a bid last Friday, which was immediately rejected by the club," Lowe told BBC Sport.
