The two clubs appear to have agreed an estimated £2.5million fee for the Danish stopper and only monies owed to him as poart of his Sunderland contract are holding up the keeper moving to Villa Park.

A statement on Sunderland's official website read: "The club can confirm that it has had discussions with Thomas Sorensen's agent about him moving to Aston Villa.

"However, a deal cannot be concluded as the keeper is still in discussions with Sunderland about monies due to him from that club."
