Spurs star Alan Hutton wanted by Aston Villa

New Villa boss Alex McLeish is a huge admirer of the right-back and was unsuccessful in his bid to sign the 26-year-old at Birmingham last summer.

Up for grabs: Aston Villa are ready to launch a bid for Tottenham full-back Allan Hutton

The former Rangers defender has a year left to run on his existing deal at White hart Lane and manager Harry Redknapp may be willing to offload him now rather than lose him on a free next year.

Hutton faces a stiff competition for first-team football at Tottenham now that exciting England Under-21 ace Kyle Walker has returned to the club and expected to push first-choice full-back Vedran Corluka for a place in the team.

First choice: Hutton may have to play second fiddle to Vedran Corluka if he stays at Spurs this summer

Villa had initially hoped for Walker to return to them on loan after last season's successful stint but he signed a new long-term deal at Spurs earlier this week and will stay.

Hutton, however, is available just three-and-a-half years after cost the north London club ?9million from the SPL champions.
