The 33-year-old was substituted during the second half of the defeat by Manchester United on 23 December and although he was expected to return before the new year, that comeback date has been revised following a visit to a specialist. "The prognosis is that things will get better but while he has got blurred vision he can't play," said Martin O'Neill.
