Taylor said: “We all know football can be a cruel game and it’s been very cruel to us tonight.”

“We’re very disappointed, as you can imagine, because with our league position, the cups have been very, very important for us. Everybody was really set-up for this.

“We went out there and we started well. We came in at 1-1 at half-time and we’d done quite well.

“Then 20 minutes into the second-half, we were 3-1 down and thought we were going out of the competition. Full credit to the players, they fought back to 3-3 and we looked like the side that could win it in extra-time.

“Then Jlloyd slipped and I think the ball came off the heel of Olly Mellberg to set it up for Murphy. Football can be a cruel game and I think it’s been very cruel to us tonight.

“We can be critical, but we’ve come into this game with only Olly Mellberg playing in his real position at the back. But I think the players reacted very well.

“We fought back from 3-1 down, OK we got a bit of a break with the equaliser, but we deserved that. In the end though, it just wasn’t our night.”
