Taylor wants to finish career at Villa

Last updated : 07 November 2002 By VillaMAD
Taylor, now 34, joined Villa from Sheffield Wednesday eight years ago when he became former boss Brian Little's first signing for the club.

Lifelong Villa fan Taylor said: "I want to earn a new contract and I want to stay here as long as I can. Everybody knows this is where I want to play. I'm happy to stay here for the rest of my career.

"I think the good thing is that when I've been fit and available, the manager has tended to play me so that's a good sign. Getting into the box and scoring goals is one of my strengths.

"I'm hoping that I can play at this level for another couple of years. You take inspiration from people like Gary McAllister who was playing in the Premiership still at 37 and is now doing a good job at Coventry City.

"Those type of guys have looked after themselves throughout their career which is why they have been able to play on for so long.

"It's great for me to be back involved again and I just want to stay fit now for the rest of the season and play a part in getting Villa up the Premiership table and maybe having some cup success along the way."
