"Manager Martin O'Neill has been given permission to speak to the England Under-21 star," a statement on the official Villa website droned. Villa are thought to have offered in the region of £8m for Young, who scored 15 goals for the Hornets last season, as O'Neill looks to boost his attacking options, with Chris Sutton injured and Juan Pablo Angel and Milan Baros proving little danger in the race for the European Golden Shoe. The 21-year-old Young turned down a move to West Ham earlier this week after Watford accepted a £9.65m bid from Upton Park, while Spurs are also reported to be in the hunt.
