Villa buoyed by Sørenson scan

The 28-year-old was replaced by Dutchman Stefan Postma at the mid-way point of Villa's 3-0 defeat to Charlton Athletic on Wednesday. It was feared that he might be sustained for a few weeks but scans today revealed that it is only bruising. Postma, nevertheless remains on stand-by for the side's home game against Newcastle United tomorrow.

Sørenson has become a fundamental part of the team since joining David O’Leary’s side from Sunderland in a £2.25m deal in August 2003. He excelled in his first season at the club and was ever present, conceding just 44 goals as Villa finished with the sixth best defensive record in the Premier League.

He also helped and then later hindered Denmark with a patchy showing at Euro 2004 as the side reached the quarter-finals. His aversion to the big stage is unlikely to be tested at Villa Park for the foreseeable future though.
