Vassell has been ruled out of England's two Euro 2004 qualifiers with Macedonia and Liechtenstein with a pelvic injury.

"Darius won't be fit to go with England. He has a pelvic problem that needs sorting out," said Villa boss David O'Leary.

"We're going to get him looked at now. The season is too long for him to keep going the way he is.

"We're going to try and get to the bottom of the problem and, from what I gather, it's a problem he's had for a few years here."

Meanwhile Gareth Barry, who began a two game suspension on saturday and missed the victory over Leicester, will almost certainly be ruled out of the England Under-21s squad to play Macedonia and Portugal with a groin problem sustained during the midweek defeat by Arsenal.
