Villa Slammed By Newcastle Fan Site

Ahead of the crunch cash between Villa and Newcastle at Villa Park on Sunday our friends over at Newcastle United MAD have labelled the Claret and Blue as 'rubbish'.

The Magpies face one of the biggest games in their history, with Alan Shearer's side in need of at least a point to even have a chance of Premier League survival.

But, after Martin O'Neill outlined why Villa still had a lot to play for and would do their best to win the game, Geordie fan site writer NU Mad questioned the Northern Irishman in an article entitled 'Why Should Toon Fear Villa - They Are Rubbish'

The author of the piece then went on to outline why their opponents are hardly on the best of form and listed the last 15 Villa matches during which O'Neill's men have won just once.

Well here at Villa MAD, we have come up with five key reasons why the Toon Army should fear a Claret and Blue barrage on the final day of the season.

5. Big John Carew

The Norwegian striker has been in fine form of late, netting eight goals in his last 17 games. Carew destroyed the Magpies at Villa Park last season, hitting a second half hat-trick in a 4-1 Villa demolition job.

The terrace hero is one of the most feared front men in the Premier League at the moment and he could have a field-day against Newcastle's feeble defence.

4. Recent Record

Newcastle have been awful at Villa Park in the last few years, losing on three of their last four visits there.

The Geordies have conceded 11 goals in that time and surely their fans can't be confident that their leaky backline can keep out one of the most exciting attacking sides in the league.

3. Missing Men

Michael Owen, Sebastian Bassong and Shay Given - three key figures for Newcastle this season - are unlikely to play on Sunday.

In Given's case he may get an outing but it will be in the colours of Manchester City as they take on Bolton after he completing a move to Manchester in January. The Irish keeper has often been the difference between an admirable outcome and a cricket score and the Geordies could really do with him back.

Owen looks set to miss out through injury whilst Bassong will be suspended, should his appeal against the red card he received last weekend fail. The French defender has held the defence together on his own at times and would be a big miss.

2. Awful Away Form

Newcastle have won just twice away from home this season and have been simply awful on their travels. Despite an amazing following, the Geordies have only managed to beat Portsmouth and West Brom which doesn't bode well for Sunday does it?

1. Rookie Gaffer Vs Old Stager

It's the battle of the BBC pundits in the dugouts as Alan Shearer takes on former colleague Martin O'Neill.

And it's the Northern Irishman who holds the advantage both on and off the pitch as not only can he call on a better set of players but he also possesses the wisdom of 772 games in management amassing 412 wins during his time at Wycombe, Leicester, Celtic and, of course, Villa.

Shearer on the other hand has had just seven games as a manager with a record of one win, four defeats and two draws.

The younger of the two will have to rely on a great deal of luck if he is to keep his beloved club in England's top division on Sunday.
