Villa win on penalties

after a goalless first half Villa took the lead on 51 minutes - Kachloul heading home a de la Cruz centre - and three minutes later Villa were 2-0 up when Hitzlsperger scored from a 25-yard strike.

Leeds fought back, however, and eight minutes from the end Barmby converted an Aaron Lennon cross from the left to bring the score back to 2-1.

The Yorkshire side pressed for an equaliser which duly came when Ian Harte fired home from the edge of the box in stoppage time to take the game into a penalty shoot-out.

In the shoot-out Harte missed the first penalty for Leeds and Staunton scored for Villa, 1-0

McMaster scored for Leeds and Hitzlsperger scores for Villa, 2-1

Mills scored for Leeds 2-2, Allback scored for Villa, 3-2

Enckelman saved McPhail's penalty, 3-2
