MATCH PREVIEW

Prince William would have been too young to remember the last time his beloved Aston Villa lost this fixture. The royal newlywed would doubtless wish that, as his honeymoon begins, Roy Hodgson's comes to an end.

We still need one or two points but if we do survive then it will be an achievement for this club

West Brom boss Roy Hodgson

Hodgson has only lost one of his eight matches in charge of West Brom - and that defeat came against Chelsea. Before his arrival, the club were above the relegation zone only on goal difference; now they are six points clear and chasing a top-10 finish.

That, too, is the target for Villa, who go into this local skirmish a point and a place above their hosts following a four-match unbeaten run.

Both sides know a win in this game would banish any lingering threat of relegation. Yet victory in this fixture has eluded West Brom for more than quarter of a century since Carl Valentine's winner at The Hawthorns in April 1985. Prince William, who was two years old then, will not be amused by an overdue home win on Saturday.
