The 31-year-old has signed a two-year deal with the Bundesliga outfit after two difficult seasons at Villa that yielded just six league goals. He made 35 league appearances, though more than from the substitute's bench since his move from Dutch club Heerenveen in 2002.

Despite his woeful club form, Allbäck's games for Sweden, for whom he has 42 caps, have always hinted that he is more talented than the Villa Park faithful have reason to believe. He will replace Martin Max at Hansa, one of Europe's top scorers last term as he hit 20 goals before retiring at the age of 35 in May. His loss has been felt and Hansa are yet to score this term.
