Liverpool running out of money and time?

Last updated : 28 July 2008 By Tom Vickers
Could this be the last article about Gareth Barry and his infamous Liverpool link?
The Reds are set to complete a deal for Tottenham striker Robbie Keane, worth a reported...£18million.
Does the price ring a bell?
As you may have heard already, that is apparently Villa's asking price for Gareth Barry.
Now it looks like Rafa Benitez has switched his attention and spent his transfer kitty.
The England midfielder should be at Villa for at least another season and the only way in which that could change is if Liverpool sell Xabi Alonso.
But the Spanish midfielder has dismissed a tenuous rumour about moving to Juventus and there is no other obvious interest from other parties.

Backing

Despite declaring that his club are not reliant on the Alonso deal for the cash to sign Barry, Benitez is unlikely to get any more backing from the American owners.
Liverpool are already in the process of funding a move away from Anfield and, as Arsenal found out, it will hit the pocket hard.
Therefore all but a few Villa fans will be hoping they've heard the last of the Liverpool link.
The last they've heard about their former captain joining his mate Steven Gerrard in midfield on Merseyside.
And the last they've heard from Rafa Benitez!
