Villa Set To Swap Shorey

Villa are ready to off-load summer signing Nicky Shorey with Newcastle preparing a bid.

It is thought that Joe Kinnear wants the former Reading man in exchange for French left back Charles N'Zogbia.

The deal would most likely be a straight swap with neither side receiving money for their player.

Shorey has endured a torrid time since joining Villa for £3.5m last August and has made just 12 appearances.

To add insult to injury, Luke Young, a naturalised right back, has been preferred to Shorey in the left back role.

N'Zogbia, 22, is five years younger than the former England international and can be used at left midfield or left back.

The Frenchman, who joined Newcastle from Le Havre in 2004, has undoubted pace and ability, which would suit Villa's counter attacking style.

A deal would definitely fit all parties with the Magpies looking for more defensive nouse and Villa targeting increased pace.
