Reo To Replace Milner?

Last updated : 03 November 2009 By Tom Vickers

Nigel Reo-Coker could be set for a return to first team action at his old stomping ground, as Martin O'Neill comes to terms with a mounting missing list.

Villa seem certain to be without James Milner for the trip to West Ham after he limped off at half-time against Everton, meaning Reo-Coker could slot in on the right-hand side of midfield.

Another option open to O'Neill is to pick Emile Heskey up front alongside John Carew, who netted a vital equaliser at Goodison Park, with Gabby Agbonlahor moving to a wide berth.

The third and final selection solution would be to play Nicky Shorey at left -back, therefore allowing Ashley Young to replace Milner with Stephen Warnock moving onto the left-wing.

Whatever the line-up, Villa will certainly miss their former Newcastle wide man, who scored the winner at Upton Park last season.

O'Neill will also have to do without Carlos Cuellar after he was harshly sent off against the Toffees.

With the Spaniard serving a one game ban, it looks likely that Luke Young will make a welcome return.

Just like Reo-Coker, Young has been out of the first team picture for quite a while, albeit for all together different reasons.

After completing a number of reserve games recently the talented full-back could just be given a chance to replicate the fine form that he showed throughout last season.

Skipper Stiliyan Petrov is also doubtful for the trip to east London but he is likely to make the starting side.

Probable Villa team to face West Ham:

                                     1. Friedel

  2. L Young        5. Dunne            29. Collins         23. Warnock

  20. Reo-Coker   19. Petrov           4. Sidwell         7. A Young

                        11. Agbonlahor     10. Carew
