The Colombian had a difficult season in Birmingham last season, missing the first month as he recovered from a knee injury before racking up just seven goals. But he is determined to rediscover his form of 2003/04 next term and sees tonight’s game as the perfect springboard. “It is always a big game when you play England,” the 29-year-old told the club’s official website, carefully neglecting to add reserve reserves.
“I aim to enjoy it. Hopefully we’ll get the right result because we want to go into our qualifiers confident. I missed pre-season last year – I came from surgery and had to have another check-up over here. It meant I played catch-up ever since. I’m really looking forward to getting in a full pre-season. I won’t have the full rest because Colombia have some qualifiers but, more than that, I’m looking forward to having a proper pre-season and doing things right.”
Colombia currently lie sixth in the CONMEBOL standings, two points behind Uruguay in fifth place, which carries a play-off tie with the winner from Australasia. Meanwhile, England have already made a giant stride towards germany and will be looking for another win on their worthwhile tour of the US. Former Villa plank Crouch will is almost certain to make his debut tonight as Eriksson once again felxes his squad muscles to the fear of no-one. Not even Jan Koller.
