Angel delight for Colombia

Last updated : 09 June 2005 By Pancho Villa

Just four days after scoring in Colombia’s 5-0 win against Nolbero Solano’s Peru side, Angel was again the scourge of a Villa team-mate as Ulises de la Cruz found himself on the wrong end of a 3-0 scoreline. Just three minutes after midfielder Tressor Moreno had given the home side an early lead, Angel chested Jair Benitez's pass the into the path of the Once Caldas player, who scored his second with a 30-yard drive

Substitute Martin Arzuaga added the third midway through the second half to seal a win that takes Colombia past Uruguay and into fourth - the last automatic qualifying spot. Ecuador remain comfortably placed in third despite the loss.

Thomas Sørensen and Denmark also kept their qualification hopes alive as two goals from Søren Larsen set them on course for victory against Albania in Copenhagen. In only his second international, Larsen broke the deadlock on four minutes and doubled the lead just after the interval. Martin Jørgensen soon added a third before Erion Bogdani reduced the deficit but it was too little, too late for Albania. Denmark remain just three points behind Group 2's second-place team Turkey, whom they face on 3 September, with a game in hand.
