Solano dropped by Peru

The Villa midfielder and Roberto Palacios were both left out of Freddy Ternero’s side following the heavy 5-0 defeat by Colombia on Saturday, but the decision was not vindicated. Usually building on a strong midfield base, the side soon resorted to long balls and although it almost wrought early success for Paolo Guerrero, Uruguay goalkeeper Sebastian Viera was peripheral for much of the proceedings.

Uruguay offered little in return, however, save for substitute Richard Morales striking the crossbar with two minutes remaining as Peru were left in eighth place in the CONMEBOL standings, three points adrift of a play-off place.

Solano’s club team-mate, Ulises de la Cruz looks a certainty for Germany next year and his Ecuador side can all but book a berth with victory against Juan Pablo Angel’s Colombia this evening. Meanwhile, in Europe, Thomas Sø renson will be in action against Albania.
