Who rated well against Rovers?

Last updated : 27 January 2008 By Tom Vickers
Scott Carson 7

Made crucial penalty save but again didn't look too composed.

Wilfred Bouma 7

Some good tackles and was typically strong

Martin Laursen 7

Not as influencial as usual but has set a high standard. Still commanded well.

Curtis Davies 5

Not a good performance as he was constantly beaten in the air by Santa Cruz. The goal came from his mistake as he was tricked by Dunn.

Olof Mellberg 6

Not a bad game in what could be his last for the club. Gave Pedersen nothing.

Ashley Young 8

Villa-MAD Man of the Match: A quiet first half but came to life in the second. Scored the crucial equaliser with a pearler and caused Rovers the most problems.

Gareth Barry 8

Good comeback from injury and his passing was better than most. Strong performance will have shown Capello he is the man for midfeld.

Nigel Reo-Coker 4

Worst performance in a Villa shirt. Had no impact and his first half show was one to forget. Gave away a needless penalty and his passing was poor.

Stiliyan Petrov 5

Passing was not good and had absolutely no impact. Replaced by Harewood.

John Carew 6

Tried to get into the game but was snuffed out by Samba. Effort couldn't be faulted.

Gabby Agbonlahor 6

Not his usual dynamic self and at times looked tired. Moved to right after the introduction of Harewood and faded emphatically.

Substitutes

Marlon Harewood for Petrov 7: Raised a buzz around the stadium and hit the bar with a towering header. Good effort.
