Bouma And Young Set For Bench

Wilfred Bouma and Luke Young could take their place on the bench at Villa Park on Saturday after coming through a reserve team friendly unscathed.

Bouma managed 85 minutes, while Young completed ten less as the Claret and Blue second string defeated Crewe Alexandra 3-2.

Craig Gardner netted for Villa before Andreas Weimann made sure of the win with a double strike.

Bouma and Young went into the game on the back of a full appearance against Wolves reserves and their return to fitness will be a big boost for Martin O'Neill.

However, the Villa boss now has a large squad to choose from and with fully-fit defenders Nicky Shorey and Habib Beye continuing to warm the bench, the recovering duo face a battle to regain their first team spots.

Young is most likely to return to the starting side despite centre back Carlos Cuellar performing admirably in the Englishman's absence.

Both Bouma and Young will be chomping at the bit to start for their club once again and don't be surprised to see them warming up on the sidelines as Villa take on title chasing Chelsea this weekend.
