Wayne Routledge provided a sparkling goal and plenty of adept passing to light up Villa's reserve team outing against Derby. He scored the second goal in what was a comfortable win.
Promising England youth player Nathan Delfouneso set up the opener for James Collins who volleyed home. Delfouneso has been a real star for the reserves this season and his contribution in this game was to be as crucial as ever.
Derby were reduced to ten men after 10 minutes after a bad challenge by Beardsley on Lund.
It was a bad start by the visitors and it was only to get worse. New Villa signing Routledge scored real cracker just seven minutes. He had started the game in fine fashion and looked a step above. The goal was clear proof of his talents.
The former Spurs man was having a hand in almost everything and set up Delfouneso again just before half time. But, the 17 year old striker failed to direct his header and it flew over the bar.
The youngster was not to be denied though as he finished well from a great through ball by Isaiah Osbourne. It was a goal that was richly deserved and continued Delfouneso's fine run of form.
He was then replaced but not before having a goal disallowed. His replacement Marc Albrighton made an almost immediate impact as he came on to net after a goal mouth scramble. Everything was going right for the reserves and the scoring didn't stop there.
Wayne Routledge was brought off for a well earned rest on 77 minutes leading to suspicions he may start against Newcastle. Five minutes later Baker scored to make it 5-0.
Togolese strongman Salifou played a part in the final goal as he started the move which was finished well by another substitute Andreas Weimann.
