Goals from Kofi Poyser and Gary Gardner were not enough as Villa's academy side were beaten 3-2 by Blues.

The Claret and Blue went behind on 17 minutes as Jake Jervis netted for the home side but they soon claimed a lead via Poyser and Gardner to take a lead into half-time.

Blues turned it around after the break as Jordon Mutch struck with a free-kick and Jervis converted a penalty to seal the derby win.

Villa stars Poyser and Gardner are in fine form right now and they deserved more from a game which their opponents had the better of.

Both youngsters showed great finesse to finish the chances that came their way and Gardner's strike was a real joy to behold.

Tony McAndrew is delighted with the talented two and he must be revelling in guiding them towards the first team.
