Villa struggled to break down a stubborn defence but looked to have earned a third successive win when Nolberto Solano opened the scoring with 20 minutes. The Peruvian winger latched onto Juan Pablo Angel’s deft flick and fired home from the edge of the area but the lead lasted just five minutes before the hosts levelled when Joacim Dahlstrom fired beyond Stuart Taylor.
David O’Leary’s side had opportunities to regain the lead but although Patrik Berger and Kevin Phillips both went close, Villa were forced to settle for a draw. They now travel to face second division side GAIS on Tuesday.
