Out with the old and in with the new

The new transfer window opens in the New Year and all Villa fans are waiting in anticipation to see who will be leaving and who will be coming to Villa Park in January.

Why do we have a transfer window? Who benefits from it? What is the point of it? What was wrong with the old system that kept transfer speculation running the whole year round? Wouldn't it be nice to revert back to the system that worked so well for so many years?

Tottenham fans will be fearing the loss of Berbatov in the transfer window. Germaine Defoe would be wise to read the 'writing on the wall' and give his career a boost by accepting a transfer away from White Hart Lane. How welcome would he be at Villa Park?

It is interesting to reflect what will happen to the two team on display today. How different will they be at the end of January? Who will have moved on to 'pastures new'. Who will have been brought in to improve the squads? So it will definitely be a case of 'out with the old and in with the new' as far as Villa and Tottenham are concerned!!

Both Villa and Tottenham like to play attractive attacking football as the 4-4 draw earlier in the season underlined. Tottenham's defence will have improved with the return of Ledley King. Tottenham after a poor start are now starting to climb up the Premiership and will be looking to advance further on New Year's Day.

Villa are due a win at Villa Park, Tottenham have only won once away from home this season. So on paper, Villa should win this match at a canter. After the energy sapping boggy pitch at Wigan the Villans will have to dig deep into their energy reserves to get through this one. In truth I would expect this to be a very tight game with the Villans again winning by the odd goal.

So hopefully we will start the New Year with a win and let's hope that 2008 will turn out to be a milestone in the resurgence of AVFC.

Come on you Villa boys!!!
