Ahmed Hassan on Aston Villa's Transfer Radar as January Window Deadline Looms

Exclusive - Aston Villa are considering a move for Egypt international Ahmed 'Kouka' Hassan to their squad this month after the striker was recommended as a possible transfer target by Ahmed Elmohamady and Trézéguet.

Dean Smith's side are searching for a new centre-forward after summer signing Wesley's long-term injury, while Jonathan Kodja has left Villa Park to join Qatari side Al Gharafa.

Genk's Mbwana Samatta has already arrived this month in a £9.5m transfer, but Aston Villa still want another body to join their first-team squad as the club look to stay above the relegation zone this season.

A source has told 90min that Kouka is a serious target for Aston Villa this month as they look to sign another striker before the transfer window closes next month.

Currently with Portuguese outfit S.C. Braga, Kouka has been recommended to Aston Villa's decision-makers by his international teammates Elmohamady and Trézéguet.

The 26-year-old would become the third Egyptian player in Aston Villa's squad this season.

Aston Villa will need to move fast if they want to secure Kouka's signature as the striker is already in the latter stages of negotiations over a move to Olympiacos.

Kouka was on loan with the Greek club last season and he scored 15 goals in 32 appearances, including two in the Europa League group stages. Since returning to Braga, he's only scored one league goal in six appearances.

Liga NOS rivals Paços de Ferreira are also interested in Kouka, but Braga would prefer to send the 26-year-old abroad this month.

Dean Smith

Smith's side could have a helping hand if they do decide to fast-track a move for Koucka this month as he was recently granted Portuguese citizenship, meaning he would not require a work permit to move to the Premier League.
